Gathering Proposals
Some of our larger Gatherings extend a call for presentations while others are designed for invited speakers and open space. Anyone attending the conference can facilitate a session during open space. Our events page is the best place for detailed information about upcoming Gatherings.
Becoming a Member
Membership in the Scrum Alliance is offered to graduates of our CSM and CSPO courses, Certified Scrum Developers, Certified Scrum Professionals, Certified Scrum Coaches, and Certified Scrum Trainers. For CSM and CSPO courses, membership fees are paid by your trainer for the first two years,* but renewal and advanced certification fees are your responsibility.
Where do those fees go? Since 2008, the Scrum Alliance has been a tax-exempt organization under IRS code 501(c)(6) as a business league/professional association. As such, we do not profit from your membership fees. Instead, they go toward hosting Gatherings, creating this website, supporting local user groups, and funding outreach and education throughout the world.
* Course attendees must be approved for certification by the instructor to be eligible for Certified Membership privileges.
2012 Strategic Plan
The Scrum Alliance is facing new opportunities and challenges from within as well as outside the Agile community. Many other certifying bodies are beginning to catch on to what we’ve known for some time -- Scrum certification is valuable, in demand, and of growing importance to the software industry and beyond.

Who is the Scrum Alliance?
The Scrum Alliance is a non-profit professional membership organization created to share the Scrum framework and transform the world of work. (Learn more about Scrum.)
The Scrum Alliance's mission is to increase awareness and understanding of Scrum, provide resources to individuals and organizations using Scrum, and promote the iterative improvement necessary to succeed with Scrum. The Scrum Alliance hosts Scrum Gatherings and supports Scrum User Groups, providing a forum for interactive learning throughout the world.

Is the Scrum Alliance a training company?
No. Think of us as something like the National Association of Realtors. Their business isn't about selling real estate, it's about promoting the importance of hiring a realtor to help sell your home or workspace, and provides a one-stop shop for international real estate listings. Similarly, we don't offer training ourselves but, instead, certify that certain trainers or certain courses meet our strict standards. Then, as a service to the CSTs, REPs, and to the Scrum community, we host their course listings on our website.
We do so much more than just list courses, though! We also help support local user groups, subsidize events, host Gatherings, and do what we can to further the advancement of Scrum throughout the world.

Tax Forms
A Form 990 is an annual reporting return that certain federally tax-exempt organizations must file with the IRS. It provides information on the filing organization's mission, programs and finances. An Adobe PDF version of our Form 990 for the year 2011 is now available. You can also check out our original application for tax exemption (Form 1024) and our determination lettter. These forms are viewable in your browser using Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Board of Directors
The Scrum Alliance is governed by a Board of Directors: Chairman Harvey Wheaton, Assistant Chairman Bob Hartman, Treasurer Dan Hintz, Assistant Treasurer Chris Guzikowski, Secretary Steve Fram, Board Members Mike Cohn, Pete Deemer, Steve Forte and Steve Denning.
